Privacy Policy

The short version – your photos never leave your device. Here are the details, in plain language.

Your photos stay on your device

heicjpgpng.com converts images locally in your browser. When you add photos, they are decoded and converted by a WebAssembly program running on your own computer, tablet or phone. Your photos are never uploaded, transmitted or stored by us. We have no server that receives them, so we cannot see, analyse or keep them. The same applies to the converted files and to any PDF you create.

What is stored in your browser

To remember your preferences, the site uses your browser’s local storage (localStorage) on your device. It contains only:

  • your chosen theme (light or dark);
  • your converter preferences, such as output format, JPG quality, photo info (EXIF) setting and PDF options;
  • your cookie and advertising consent choice;
  • whether you dismissed the language suggestion banner.

Your photos are never saved there. You can delete this data at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

The site also installs a service worker, which caches the site’s own files (pages, styles, scripts and the converter) so that the converter keeps working offline. It does not cache your photos.

Advertising and cookies

The site is funded by advertising provided by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies or similar identifiers to show and measure ads – but only after you give your consent in the cookie banner. We use Google Consent Mode v2: if you refuse, or until you decide, only non-personalised or limited ads are shown and no advertising cookies are set for personalisation.

You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page. To learn how Google processes data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used: which pages are visited, from which countries and devices, and how many conversions are made (only the format and the number of files — never file names or photo contents). Until you click “Accept all”, Google Consent Mode keeps Analytics in a restricted mode that sets no cookies. After you accept, Google Analytics may set first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) that last up to 14 months. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. You can withdraw your consent at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer. More information: how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

Server logs

The site is delivered through our hosting provider, Cloudflare. Like any web server, it records technical data such as IP address, browser user agent and the time of the request. These logs are kept briefly for security and abuse prevention, and they never contain your photos.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (European Union and UK) or the LGPD (Brazil) give you rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete or object to its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because we do not receive your photos and do not run user accounts, we hold very little data about you. For advertising data, you can withdraw consent via “Cookie settings” and manage your choices with Google. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

The site is a general-purpose tool and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and the “Updated” date shown on it.

Ratings

After a conversion you can rate the converter from 1 to 5 stars. If you do, we store only the rating, the page language, the date and a one-way hashed identifier derived from your IP address and browser (it can’t be turned back into your IP address). It is used solely to count one vote per visitor and to show the average rating on this site and in search results. Your browser also remembers that you have already voted. Rating is optional.
